Established in 1978 (originally known as George A. Bush Insurance), our Orange Park office has offered superior personal and business insurance services since its opening. Meet our Owners

George A. Bush, President

After working to put himself through college, George earned a B.S. Degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida. He began a professional career that has grown to a commitment to the insurance industry, starting with the Travelers Insurance Companies in 1974.

George began the agency in Orange Park in 1978. The Agency grew, and with the purchase of several small agencies, eventually opened a second office in Middleburg. He has taken thousands of hours of professional insurance courses and earned, through written exams, the coveted Certified Insurance Counselor designation given by the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors in Austin, Texas. In 2003, George was recognized by the Society for over 20 years of educational excellence.

George holds memberships in the Florida Association of Insurance Agents and the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors.

George also served in a number of professional and civic capacities. He has held elective office in Clay County since 1980. He served as a member of the Clay County School Board for 12 years, and served Clay County as a county commissioner from 1992 through 2008. George has worked to solve traffic problems in northeast Florida as Clay County’s only representative to the First Coast Metropolitan Planning Organization, having also served time as its Chairman. He was a 20 year member of the Rotary Club of Orange Park, serving in various capacities including President.

The United States Navy is special to George. He is a second generation Navy man, having served in Naval Aviation during the Viet Nam conflict.

Melinda L. Thompson, Secretary/Treasurer

Following in her mother’s footsteps, Melinda began her insurance career in an independent agency in 1973. She was licensed as a property/casualty agent in early 1975, receiving her Certified Insurance Counselor designation in 1989. Joining Bush Insurance in 1982, Melinda progressed through all aspects of the agency, becoming an owner in 1994.

Melinda served two terms as President of the Middleburg Business Association and also served as President of the Lakeside Elementary PFA for the 2000-01 school term. As a member of the Rotary Club of Green Cove Springs from 2000 through 2010, Melinda served on the Board of Directors for 8 years, three as Club Vice-President. In 2010, she was named Green Cove Rotarian of the Year. She has been recognized in the 2004 edition of the National Register’s Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals.

Melinda has been an active adult volunteer with the Girl Scouts since 1992. She served the Orange Park area as Service Unit Manager for 9 years and as the Clay County Fund Raising Chair for North Fork Camp. She has continually served as a troop leader, and has added camp chef and Council trainer to her list. Melinda also currently serves as a St. Vincent’s Medical Clay County Ambassador and an active member of the Florida Association of Insurance Agents.
